- By scheduling around the line rather than against it, and by briefing the photographer so they know what they are looking at. For West Pharmaceuticals we shot a portrait story across seven working factory floors in four countries without halting manufacturing.
- What access does an industrial shoot need arranged in advance?
- Site induction, safety briefing, an escort, and agreement on what may and may not appear in the background. Ports, energy sites and regulated plants each run their own process. For ED&F Man, access to photograph a cargo ship docking in Dublin was arranged directly with the port authority weeks ahead.
- Can one commission cover sites in several countries?
- Yes, and locally is usually the right way to do it. Site knowledge, language and permit familiarity matter more on industrial work than anywhere else. For OSRAM we photographed lighting installations on stadiums and civic landmarks across five countries.
